HTC Desire HD (ACE) + CyanogenMod 7.1: List of apps not working on SD Card

I recently installed on my HTC Desire HD (HTC ACE) the last version of CyanogenMod ROM 7.1.0.
ROM is working great and I suggest it to everyone who wants to change the standard one (pay attention, it doesn't have Sense on it! but that's not only a negative point).

In any case, I've found that some app, once moved on the SDCard, slow down the ROM very much and, once rebooted they cause a quite immediate ROM freezing/blocking after the PIN code. you will then need to take off the battery and restart the phone.
Only way is to delete the app file from your SD Card.
Connect the Sd Card to a PC and open the ".android_secure" folder from the room (sometimes it's an hidden folder) and delete the file (usually is the last one moved).
Mount the SD on the mobile and turn it on. Now you can install the app again but DON'T move the app to the SD or you will have the problem again!

Here I will add a list of apps causing this problem. Not sure if it's the same on all mobiles/versions, but maybe this will help someone:

- Cut the rope
- Lane Splitter
- Box
- Make me old
- Make me bald
- Samsung mobile printer
- IP Cam Viewer Pro
- Minecraft
- Photoshake
- Google drive
- Trony
- 500px
- Instagram

More to come (once I find them!)
If you are having this problem too, please send a comment on this page

...and hope google will solve it soon or at least will provide us a solution!

Thanks!

  1. I don't think it's cause by application. I had tried many method.

The one that cause this issue is when ur ".android_secure" folder reach ~800mb or more. Then it will seriously causing the restart.

That what I face now. So, keep your external application less than 800mb should be ok.

But, what the point havint big capacity but cannot really optimize it right?

So, google too responsible on this. Already years but there no fix from them. While we can just waiting and waiting..

  2. I've also had this error, posted on googlecode like you, and searched about for a fix.
The 'workaround' is an app called LINK2SD. Install this !!

You create a second EXT4 partition on your SD card, the LINK2SD transfers the apps you want into this EXT4 partition, then at boot it links the EXT4 partition making the phone think that the apps are all installed on the local phone memory, works flawless !

  3. Forgot to mention, this only works on ROOTED phones ... c'mon Google get working on this major problem ...
Most new phones have 16gb+ internal phone memory so I'm guessing they're letting this one slide :(

  4. I dont even think it's that. Sure, if that file grows beyond 800MB, you're in reboot land. But, that file should NEVER be any larger than the last app moved (MOVED, not Installed To - those are VERY , VERY different) 's portion that gets moved. The WHOLE app is never moved, only a portion that CAN be moved.

What is happening? Any app that Installs to SD (NOT Moves to SD, apps can NOT Move themselves to SD after installation, that has to be done manually) will ALWAYS stay behind and ADD to the size of that file. Once that file hits 800MB, make toast. You CAN and SHOULD dewlte that file regularly - it is recreated EVERY TIME ANY APP IS INSTALLED, whether TO the SD (uncommon) or TO INTERNAL MEMORY/RAM of the deivice (Normal)

ALL apps are SUPPOSED to delete (clean up) that file after install, ALL do - except the ones that INSTALL TO SD. And, by the way, Google has offically denounced and DOES NOT RECOMMEND that any app INSTALL TO SD, and Android devc handbook warns that future OSs will disallow the ability fo apps to Install themselves to an SD. Unfortunately they wer not talkng about ics, most likley kiwi or krispe kreme or whatever google will call the one after jelly bean.

    Y is this in italien>?
